Diminishing Horizons

Kew Gardens

This is one of those happy accidents that you get now and again (all the more pleasing when its film and you don’t see the results for a few days).

This was shot on my Yashica Mat 124-G on Kodak Portra 160VC (my favourite film).

I intended to shoot the foreground flowers but the light levels were quite low so I opened up the camera to its maximum aperture and set the shutter to 1/60s.

I then balanced the camera on my foot as I wanted a low perspective too.

The framing and limited depth of field are pretty much what I wanted but it’s quite under-exposed. However, that has somehow given it this effect where the flowers seem to jump off the screen.

This is one of those I want to scan on a decent scanner one day and perhaps have a print made of it.
